Students from Devon and Cornwall have been ensuring they have the skills to make the cut by getting top tips from one of the region’s best barbers.
Barbering and hairdressing students at Cornwall College Saltash played host to Gabriela Kaye, owner of Gabriela’s Salon in Saltash.
Gabriela who has been a trained barber for 16 years, showed students different barbering skills and techniques that are used for different coloured hair, as she demonstrated them on male students and staff who acted as models.
Level 3 Hairdressing student, Lorna Truscott, said the demonstrations had “been really useful”.
“Barbering is an area that really interests me. It was really helpful to learn from someone who has set up and grown their own business,” she continued.
“I am really enjoying the course and I’m excited to be training to enter the hairdressing industry. We are really lucky at Cornwall College Saltash to have some great facilities with the Koko salons and to meet experts already working within the industry.”
Gabriela said it was “lovely” to meet some of the hairdressing students at Cornwall College Saltash.
“They paid close attention and were asking some good questions throughout. I’m sure they have great futures ahead of them,” she added.
Hairdressing Lecturer at Cornwall College Saltash, Sarah Bratherton, said the team was “very grateful to Gabriela for coming in and giving up her time”.
“It is great for our students to have a wide range of learning experiences.”
There is a Courses and Careers Advice Event on Saturday 17th March 10am until Midday for students who may be interested in hair, beauty and nail courses to come along and meet the teams and explore the facilities.
