An initiative to get children to explore their creative writing skills received a huge boost following the design and build of inspiring workshop interiors.

Led by the successful Kernow Education Arts Partnership (KEAP) and The Story Republic, The Writer’s Block sessions are designed to help young children from Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3 who find it difficult to put pen to paper and to nurture their creative talents.

And thanks to staff and students from Cornwall College Camborne, the project is now housed in a dedicated area onsite, boasting inspiring fixtures and fittings to help set the story writing scene.

Jon Innes, Curriculum Lead, Construction Trades, Cornwall College Camborne said it was “a real pleasure to help the project out”.

“After talking with the host organisation it was clear that they really needed some assistance in designing some of the props,” he said.

“As we have the right skilled people on-site; it made sense for us to step in and help out and the end result is remarkable.”

Amanda Harris, Director, Kernow Education Arts Partnership said the “new inspiring project has been created by writers, teachers, theatre makers and artists”.

“A major part of the whole project is creating the right environments and atmospheres and the work that the college’s staff and students has done is amazing, including building some real ‘Witch in the Wardrobe’ cupboards, creating secret dark rooms, providing unique large scale illustrations and art pieces,” she added.

Miriam Venner, Head of College, Cornwall College Camborne said “it’s another great initiative by KEAP for the benefit of local children, as well as adults who need help with creative writing skills”.

“We are really pleased that the workshops are here for the next twelve months, which gives all local schools the opportunity to take part, I wish the project every success,” she said.
