A family with a young daughter who rely on hospice care have praised a beauty fundraising event put on by local students.
Beauty Students at Cornwall College St Austell organised the event last weekend, raising more than £500 for Children’s Hospice SW and Cornwall Hospice Care by putting on various discounted treatments and fundraising activities.
Freya Tregear, 7, who is regularly cared for at Little Harbour has a condition known as a SWAN which is ‘Syndrome Without A Name’ or an undiagnosed disorder, it’s similar to cerebral palsy which affects her in a broad range of ways. She was born with a heart defect and one kidney. She has chronic lung disease and has to be fed through a tube into her stomach.
The girls from the Tregear family from St Stephen came to support the day and Freya’s big sister Zoe was treated to a manicure. Mum of five, Keely said; “I love to see the green little harbour buckets on display when we’re out and about as it does mean a lot from our point of view since they do so much for Freya and our family.”
Freya’s mum Keely, calls her a “true fighter” after she has battled through some life threatening operations and illnesses during her short life.
Talking about Little Harbour, Keely said; “A lot of people think it’s like going into a hospital but it’s not like that at all, it’s like our second home, so much so, that we kick off our shoes as soon as we get there and know that we’re in good hands.”
Mel De’Ville, a student who was Salon manager for the day of the fundraising event said; “We’re really pleased with the way the event went, there was a real relaxed atmosphere in the salon during the treatment sessions and everyone had a great time.
“I’d like to say a big thank you to all who gave up their time and money to support the event. We’re really pleased to be able to give all the money raised equally between Little Harbour and Mount Edgecombe.”
Beauty Lecturer, Danielle Simmonds said; “The local community was fantastic in supporting the event either by donating prizes for the tombola and raffle, or coming along on the day with their friends and family. The students organised a fantastic event which not only meant that they passed a certain section of their qualifications but they also made a difference for those charities.”
