A former dance student from Cornwall College St Austell has been showing off his dance skills to millions of people recently by dancing on the X-Factor and in a TV Christmas Commercial.

Professional Dancer and St Austell born Jake Moyle performed as a backing dancer for honey G, 4 of diamonds and Saara on the X-Factor and was a backing dancer for the results night when Louisa Johnson performed her recent track release.

Team Lead for Performing Arts and Dance lecturer, Jess Leonard said; “Jake came to complete his work experience with us whilst studying at Penrice and swiftly joined us to study the full time Dance Course.

“He came to us with a moderate amount of experience but was one of the most committed and vibrant students we’ve ever had. He spent every extra minute in the studios applying feedback from his lecturers, the progress he made whilst training with us was incredible”.

Jake completed a National Diploma in Dance and a Dance A-Level with Cornwall College, and then went on to the London Studio Centre Dance School to do his degree.

Jake said “Working on the X-Factor was probably one of the most stressful and fast past paced jobs I’ve worked on but also one of the best jobs I have ever done. Performing on the X-Factor was actually a dream come true, it was the reason I studied Dance as I really wanted to Dance on the X-Factor and now I actually have – twice!”

As well as being on the X-Factor, Jake is one of the dancers on this year’s House of Frasier Christmas commercial. Jake said: “Filming the commercial was a surreal experience as we danced and shot the advert in August on the hottest day of the year while dressed in Christmas jumpers!

“Being a Dance student at Cornwall College St Austell really gave me a good foundation for my career as it really focussed me. My initial training prepared me for each new step of my progression within the Dance industry– I had to work really hard but it was definitely worth it.

“I recently found out that I have been successful in being one of the dancers in the 2018 Disney film Mary Poppins Returns which is going to be directed by Rob Marshall and will star Emily Blunt, Meryl Streep and other well-known actors, I’m really excited to be starting rehearsals and filming for this in the New Year”.

Jake will be back in St Austell for Christmas and will be leading a workshop at our state of the art studios with our resident youth group 4FunxSake.
