Students from Cornwall College St Austell will be presenting their final end of year performance; The 25th Annual County Spelling Bee on Thursday 16th June at the Keay Theatre, St Austell.
Performing Arts Lecturer, Karen Burden, said: “This performance is a wonderfully warm and funny musical that tells the story of six fiercely competitive pubescent students eager to win a place at the national competition.
“This delightful story has catchy songs and some lovely poignant moments that explore what it is to grow up and the value of striving to be happy over purely seeking success.”
Acting Student, Lizzie Pallett said: “We’ve been working on the performance for the past two months and it has been the most wonderful experience. I’ve loved being able to work closely with my fellow actors, being directed by the hard working and passionate Karen Burdon and having the opportunity to act like a child again.
“The idea of singing to an audience was initially daunting; I’ve found real enjoyment in working on such a fun and light-hearted piece – I can’t wait to perform it.”
Duchy Ballet has kindly sponsored the play, which has helped with some of the costs involved in putting on this musical.
Karen added: “The students have worked well over the last few weeks to put the piece together, pulling together all the skills they have learned over their last 2 years with us. They are looking forward to putting the show in front of a live audience, especially as the show is slightly interactive.”
Tickets for the show can be purchased from the Keay Box Office on 01726 226454 (£5/£7) or on the door on the night (cash only).
