A trip to the Auto Sport International Racing Car Show has fuelled Cornish student’s passion for careers in the motor vehicle industry many weren’t even aware of.

The annual pre-season event, held at the NEC Birmingham, covers all areas of motorsport, both professional and grass roots, from karting right up to Formula One.

Motor Vehicle students Kyran Wainwright and Luke Lean both agreed that the long journey up to the arena was worth it. Kyran said that the car drifting event was the highlight of his day.

“Drifting is driving technique where the driver intentionally oversteers, which makes the car slide, but they still maintain control of the car,” he explained.

“I really enjoyed this seeing this event and I’d like to work as an engine specialist so I could work at motor sport events.”

Luke said it was great seeing and learning about the new technology, which is being used in industry.

“It gave us some ideas of future possible for after we finish our course”

The Event featured the very latest in motorsport, automotive and performance engineering technology, alongside cars and exhibitors from every level of motor racing the event was full of car enthusiasts keen to see the fastest cars, biggest stars and live action.

Motor Vehicle Lecturer Alex Berry organised the trip and explained that the aim was to “enrich the learning experience” and to show various routes they could go into with their qualifications after completing their course.

“We took over 30 students to the show and they enjoyed lots of interactive stands, seminars, equipment on display and product demos with celebrities indorsing certain products”

“We like to get them out of the college environment to inspire the students about what career options are out there. It also gives them the opportunity to discover other parts of the country and see how large arenas like the NEC operate.”
