Anyone looking to improve existing DIY skills or wanting to gain additional knowledge to boost career opportunities, can now benefit from expert tuition on a series of dedicated courses.

Saturday Skills Construction courses are starting in September at Cornwall College Camborne, where students attend just one day a week.

Available in either a 10-week introduction or a recognised Level 1 thirty week programme, courses on offer include, plumbing, furniture making, plastering, brick & blockwork and site carpentry.

Jon Ninnes, Curriculum Lead, Construction West, Cornwall College said there has been a “big increase in the number of people wanting to learn new construction skills”.

“The industry is growing, we know that there is a predicted future shortage of a skilled workforce and more people are wanting to carry out improvements to their homes,” he continued.

“Running these courses on a Saturday means that anyone already employed and who is looking to learn new skills to advance their careers can attend and those who simply want to improve their knowledge for DIY projects have the opportunity to join us in a friendly, dedicated environment.”

Cornwall College is recognised as the number one construction skills provider in Cornwall, having earned a respected position in the industry.

It also manages the number one apprenticeship programme in the South West and the College’s construction students regularly succeed at regional and national competitions.

“Our Saturday Skills workshops offer a real opportunity to come and learn a new trade in a purpose built space, with amazing facilities and industry experienced lecturers from trade backgrounds,” Jon continued.

“All our courses include all tools and materials, and attending one of our ten week courses could save you thousands by not having to pay others to do your DIY projects.”

All classes have limited places to ensure that students get plenty of one-to-one tuition, helping them get the most out of each course and prices start from just £250. Also available are Saturday Skills gift vouchers.
