Students from around St Austell have banded together to get in tune with the sweet sound of academic success.
Second-year music students from Cornwall College St Austell have all been offered places at their first choice universities.
Liam Wakley, a former Poltair student is going to study for a BA (Hons) Degree in Song writing at BIMM Bristol. Liam feels that “studying at University is a great life achievement” and is determined to learn as much as he can about music so he can finally enter into his dream career in the music industry.
“My study at College has greatly improved my musical skills and musicianship and because of this it has increased my chances of gaining a career in the music industry,” he continued.

The music students are fortunate that they gain multiple opportunities as musicians to play at various performances in the St Austell Bay area and beyond.
Jazz Summers said he was “looking forward to improving as a musician and creating new life experiences”.
“I’m also looking forward to building on my independence, meeting new people and creating a career in the music industry,” he added.
Prior to College, Jazz attended Penrice Academy and in September will study for a BA (Hons) Degree in Popular Music at Leeds College of Music
Jazz explained how his experience at College has helped him develop his music abilities from theory knowledge to technique and skills to use while playing. He added; “Along with this they’ve also helped me build my confidence, to the point where I feel incredibly comfortable performing where as I used to shake quite a lot in the beginning.”
Music Lecturer, Laura Philpott said she was really pleased that the work that these students have put in over the past two years “has really paid off for them”.
“They really are a talented group of musicians and I wish them all the success over the next couple of months completing their qualifications and beyond when they move on with their music education and careers,” she added.
