A group of local students have impressed the organisers at Plymouth Seafood Festival last weekend after assisting a host of guest chefs with preparing, cleaning, cooking and demoing their culinary skills on the main stage.

Celebrity local chef, Jacques Marchell, said the team of students that attended the Seafood Festival, “were attentive well-mannered and an addition to the success of the overall weekend.”

Level 2 Professional Cookery student, James Markes, said the Sea Food Festival was “a great learning experience.”

“We got to see close up what the chefs cooked and their techniques. It was great to assist the chefs.”

“I would definitely recommend the course to others, this is the best course you can study if you want to work within the catering industry.”

Fellow level 2 Professional Cookery student, Sharna Bingham, said she “really enjoyed working with different chefs at the Sea Food Festival and learning various techniques including crab picking.”

Team Lead for Hospitality and Professional Cookery at Cornwall College Saltash, Chris Penk, said the opportunity to work with “all the top chefs in our area is so inspiring for our students.”

“The experience gained is immeasurable, we are so proud of the way our young chefs supported the event and the professionalism and enthusiasm displayed was fantastic.”

Events Officer at Plymouth City Council, Sarah Cole-Lynn, said “we really cannot deliver the event without the help of the students.”
