Blog: Top Tips for Results Week

GCSE results day is just around the corner, and we know it can be a nerve-wracking time for both students and parents.

But we’re here to help, so below we’ve gathered some top tips and advice to help you navigate results day with ease.

Whether you’re anxiously waiting for your results or feeling confident about your performance, we hope our insights will be helpful in ensuring you have a successful and (somewhat) stress-free results day!

The weeks before

  • Have Fun: Embrace The Art of Distraction

To stop yourself sitting around worrying about your results, try to distract yourself with some fun activities. You can visit your favourite spot, hang out with your friends and family, binge-watch your favourite TV series, play your favourite video game, or even do some baking! Whatever you choose to do, make sure it’s something that brings you joy and helps you relax ahead of the big day.

  • Plan Ahead: The Future is Yours

Consider your options for further education or career paths. Put aside some time to research courses, colleges, and apprenticeships you’re interested in. This way, you will have a plan in place for every scenario.

  • Look After Yourself: Self-Care is Essential

Results day is an understandably stressful time, so looking after your mental, emotional and physical health is key. Eat properly, and keep talking to your friends as you may all be feeling the same way – keeping quiet won’t help anyone.

The days before

  • Stay Calm and Positive: Inhale, Exhale

Remember that stress and anxiety won’t change your results. Try to stay positive and remember all the hard work and effort you put in.

  • Sleep Well: Catch Some Zzz’s

It may be tempting to scroll through TikTok until midnight to take your mind off things, but trust us, a good night’s sleep is a game-changer! Aim for a solid 7-8 hours of rest, especially the night before results day. Not only will you wake up energized and ready for the day, but it will help to reduce those pre-results stress levels too.

The day itself

  • Have a Solid Game Plan: Ready, Set, Go!

Make sure you know exactly how and where you’ll get your results – be it at school or online, and what time your results will be available. If you want to open your results at a quieter time with less people around, go into school early, as it is likely to get busier later on.

  • Charge Up Your Phone: Capture The Memories

Ensure your phone is charged up and ready to roll so you can share the news with your friends and family. And guess what? That picture-perfect moment when you’re beaming with pride, clutching your results page, and making your loved ones proud – it deserves to be captured for you to look back on.

  • Have Someone With You: Company Is Key

Remember, you’re not in this alone! Whether it’s your family, friends, or teachers, having someone by your side on results day can make all the difference. A strong support system can soothe those results day jitters and help you stay calm, no matter what lies ahead.

  • Celebrate: You’ve Earned It!

Even if you don’t get the grades you were hoping for, it’s still a time for celebration! Completing your GCSE’s is an incredible achievement in itself. You’ve put in the hard work, and that deserves recognition. So, whether you’re jumping for joy over top grades or riding through a wave of emotions, treat yourself! Head out to your favourite restaurant with loved ones or indulge in that sweet treat you’ve been eyeing. Remember, this is a celebration of YOU.

So you’ve finally got your GCSE results……but what do you do now?

You may have your next steps already sorted, but you may also be a little unsure about what happens next.

If you have applied for a course at The Cornwall College Group, you don’t have to do anything – we will contact you in the following days to discuss what grades you received. We are here to make the results period as easy as possible.

If you didn’t get the grades you expected, try not to stress, it’s what you decide to do next that matters. You still have SO many options!

If you are applying to The Cornwall College Group, our tutors will call you to discuss your options and find the best fit for you. The good news is we can still help you achieve the career of your dreams – we are #thecareercollege, after all!

Also, it’s not too late to change your mind. You still have time to change course or switch from a different college if that’s what you want to do – and our friendly team are here ALL summer to talk through anything you need to know. Just head to our contact us page to get the conversation started.

Now you’re all set to go get those results – good luck!
