Police simulation exercise at Bicton College
A simulation exercise by Devon and Cornwall Police took place at Bicton College, to demonstrate how trained officers deal with a potentially threatening situation.
The close protection exercise, training Close Protection Officers and VIP Escort Group drivers, took place in front of Bicton College, part of The Cornwall College Group (TCCG), which included blank firing of weapons.
In the presence of two dignitaries, Lord Mountbatten and Lt General Sir Ridgeway, the exercise showcased tactical expertise, and meticulous preparation, in a simulated attack scenario from a crowed.
Expertly orchestrated by highly trained police instructors, the scenario showed an attack from the crowed, and a safe and controlled response by the police.
Spectators, comprising the college’s staff and students, had the exclusive opportunity to witness and observe the event from a secure vantage point behind barriers on the grass, opposite the front of the house.
Darren Evans, Head of Campus at Bicton College, expressed his enthusiasm, stating: “This is a significant collaboration between Devon and Cornwall Police, and the educational institution.”
“As a college, we’re honoured to host the exercise, and highlight the exceptional professionalism of the law enforcement authorities. This serves as a unique educational experience for our staff and students,” Darren added.
Scott Lawson, curriculum area manager for military and protective services at Bicton College, said: “It’s fantastic to have had the exclusive opportunity to witness the training and demonstrations of Close Protection Officers and VIP Escort Group.”
“The organised simulation to demonstrate the management of highly dangerous real-life situations was thrilling and well-planned. We hope this serves as great example for our military and protective services students, and gives them the necessary insight and inspiration to excel in their future careers,” Scott continued.
